Congratulations to former POE Midget Varsity & Midget Prep goaltender Joel Hofer (@joelhofer30) on your success, leading Canada to Gold at the World Junior Hockey Tournament.

As Global News says on their website, "Joel Hofer, 19, started the tournament as the backup to Nico Daws, but quickly became one of the championship team’s bright lights, with his impressive statistics drawing as much attention as his seeming unflappability in net.

'I think I’ve had that kind of composure ever since I was a kid,' Hofer told 680 CJOB.

'The gold medal game was probably the biggest game of my life.'

Joel was also on the POE Mexico Missions trip a few years ago and this is what he had to say about it...

“The POE house building trip to Mexico was one of the highlights of my 2 years at the Academy. Aside from how much fun it was in San Diego with all the POE players, the biggest impact on me was seeing the poverty in Mexico where we were building the house and the joy in the faces of the family we built the house for. It made me much more grateful for all that I have. It changed my whole perspective on life when I came back to Kelowna. Hey! We all want to get a shot at playing in the NHL, but long term, as far as I am concerned, the greatest happiness and meaning in our lives is going to come from making a positive difference in the lives of other people, not ourselves.”

Joel Hofer arrives in Winnipeg with his world junior gold medal.
