Mexico Missions Trip

All Star Sponsor Logo

Along with the heavy emphasis on hockey development, at POE, we feel it’s even more important to develop the characters values of our student athletes. That’s why we take a team down to Mexico to help a family in need by building them a new home. Thanks to One Life One Chance Ministries and our sponsors we’ve been able to go down over the past 6 years and build 4 homes for 4 different families. Each family has very unique situations and is chosen through an application process by a team on the ground in San Quintin, Mexico.

This service trip is a transformational experience for everyone involved. From our players and staff who attend the trip to families who receive the home. While on the trip players experience time visiting a school full of young children, a local Church service and will make a  trip to the dump handing food out to workers and people living there.

Character is built through is experience and some players will name this trip as being one of the most impactful times of their life.

“The POE house building trip to Mexico was one of the highlights of my 2 years at the Academy. Aside from how much fun it was in San Diego with all the POE players, the biggest impact on me was seeing the poverty in Mexico where we were building the house and the joy in the faces of the family we built the house for. It made me much more grateful for all that I have. It changed my whole perspective on life when I came back to Kelowna. Hey! We all want to get a shot at playing in the NHL, but long term, as far as I am concerned, the greatest happiness and meaning in our lives is going to come from making a positive difference in the lives of other people, not ourselves.”
