Of the approximately 85 players that attend the Pursuit of Excellence program, at least 90% of these players are from outside of Kelowna. Irene Ferguson is our staff person who is responsible for the billeting of our players. We have had tremendous success in finding an abundance of committed local families to host our players, year after year. We continue to prefer billeting our players rather than placing them in a dorm setting because these players develop "a home a way from home". The host families take their responsibilities seriously, not only in terms of providing a safe environment, but also in terms of providing the warmth and love of family during their stay in our program. Many of our players develop what will surely become life-time friendships, as players return each year to visit their former billet families.
Parents have the freedom within our program to make their own arrangements for housing their son or daughter with relatives or friends who reside in the Kelowna area. We have many families who rent or purchase condominiums or homes in the Kelowna area. There is also the opportunity for parents who have a player accepted into the program to often billet another player who wishes to attend the program. We have access to resources in the community which will be helpful to you if you are considering these possibilities. We would warn you, however, that once you experience life first-hand in the Okanagan Valley, it is unlikely that you will ever want to leave!
